Riad Turk, the ‘Syrian Mandela’, dead at 93 in France
The dissident fled to France in 2018 after being exfiltrated out of Syria by militants into neighboring Turkey. In total, he spent 17 years imprisoned in Syria, often without trial, on claims of various offenses under Hafez al-Assad and later his son Bashar.
